I wrote ‘Berlin’ after a day of watching Grey’s Anatomy on the couch and crying my eyes out. I had a lot of expectations for myself as a young adult and none of them were coming true - I was freshly unemployed and spending a large portion of my days complaining to my then-boyfriend. On one of those days, he made me get up, put on my clothes, and go to the park with him. It was such a small action but felt like a massive victory because it had taken all of my brain space for the day. When I came home and wrote ‘Berlin’, it was the first song I’d written in months.
